Unboxing the ElphaPex DG2+

Alright, let’s crack this box open! I’m genuinely hyped—this is one of the first ElphaPex DG2+ units out there in the wild, and man, it feels good to be at the cutting edge.

But… right out of the gate, ElphaPex, if you’re reading: please stop sending your miners in Styrofoam. This stuff gets everywhere. Not only is it messy, but it has this magical ability to worm its way inside the miner—nobody wants that. Plus, no anti-static bag? Hopefully, that’s just because this is an early sample unit, but seriously, let’s get that fixed for production.

Other than the packaging woes, props to ElphaPex for getting this unit out early for hands-on testing.

First Impressions and Build Quality

Taking the DG2+ out of the box, my first thought: it’s basically a twin to the original DG2 at first glance. This “plus” model is the big brother, upping the performance from the already crazy 18 GH/s of the DG2 to a beastly 20.5 GH/s.

Key things I notice:

  • Identical exterior to previous ElphaPex units
  • Standard 120 mm fans on front and back (braided sleeves over fan cables for neatness)
  • Reset/IP Report, Ethernet port, and RTF card slot
  • Power connector: new standard P13 (were seeing this more and more)

The unit is pretty hefty—and based on specs, it needs to be. We’re expecting power draw up near 3,900 watts (more on that soon).

Specing Out the Beast

Let’s get nerdy for a second and run down the main specs you came here to see.

FeatureSpecification (Elphapex Published)
ModelElphaPex DG2+
Hashrate20.5 GH/s (gigahash per second)
AlgorithmScrypt (supporting merged mining)
Power Consumption3,900W (±10%)
Efficiency0.19 J/MH advertised
Voltage220–277V supported
CoolingAir cooled, 120mm fans front and rear
NetworkEthernet
Noise~80 dB

Setup: Real-World Environment

Alright, let’s get this bad boy running.

I moved the unit into my “mining closet”—dedicated 30 amp, 240-volt circuit (actual voltage: 247V for those counting). Running from a Tripp Lite PDU (with C20 to P13 cable), plus ethernet, and a small thermometer to track ambient temps.

I’m also going to measure:

  • DB/sound levels
  • Heat output
  • Power draw at the wall (don’t always believe the manufacturer!)

Let’s hook up ethernet, check the power connection, and fire it up.

Booting Up and Initial Thoughts

Heads-up to new miners: With ElphaPex gear, don’t panic if your watts spike way above the spec during initial boot. I saw my DG2+ shoot up over 4,000W for the first ten minutes as it ramps up, then it settles down. Elphapex has mentioned in past interviews that this is a “feature” to get the miner mining faster.

Pro tip: Always monitor new hardware for the first 20–30 minutes on a fresh boot. Expect a power spike, then the watts will level off. Don’t freak out—it’s normal.

What is Script Mining?

Maybe you already know, but here’s a quick rundown for everyone else.

Script mining (the actual algorithm name is Scrypt, is a Proof-of-Work algorithm mainly used by coins like:

  • Litecoin (LTC)
  • Dogecoin (DOGE)

The cool thing? You can merge mine them simultaneously. That means while mining Scrypt with your DG2+, you’re automatically earning Dogecoin and Litecoin —and potentially up to 10–13 different Scrypt coins at the same time. All depends on what your mining pool of choice supports.

I personally use PowerPool for all my Scrypt Mining.

Performance Benchmarks

Now the real fun begins! Let’s push this miner to its limits and see how it really performs!

Hashrate and Power Draw

After waiting for the initial power-on spike to pass, it’s time to see what numbers we’re pulling—in the real world, not the perfect lab conditions claimed in Manufacturer datasheets.

My Live Numbers

  • Hashrate (real-time): 21.8 GH/s
  • Average Hashrate (over time): 20.5 GH/s
  • Power Consumption (at wall): 3,794W

Hold up—the unit is actually operating at over 100W less than the 3,900W promised on the Manufacturer spec sheet. That’s wild, honestly. Most hardware fails to meet (or even match) their stated specs, but ElphaPex clearly under-promised and over-delivered!

Poolside Numbers

When checking my numbers at the mining pool:

  • Reported Poolside Hashrate: 19.45 GH/s (pools always lag behind a little, so this tracks)

Temperature and Efficiency

  • Ambient temp: 68°F (I moved the DG2+ out of my home mining closet and to my ASIC Shed)
  • Efficiency: .185 J/GH (based on my real-world average hashrate)

That’s better than the L9, and a clear improvement over the standard DG2!

Noise Level and Heat

This is a big one for home miners. I tested with a DB meter right next to the unit:

  • Noise Level: ~80 dB (fluctuated between 79–82 dB)

Is that loud? Yeah—it’s not exactly “living room quiet,” but a smidge quieter than the original DG2 (and slightly louder than the L9). Again, this is industrial-grade stuff. Wear ear protection if it’s right next to you!

Profitability and Real-World Profits

Let’s talk the numbers that really matter: How much money can you make per day running the DG2 Plus?

Profit Breakdown

Profitability as of September 14th 2025:

  • Electricity rate: $0.072/kWh (yours may vary)
  • Coin prices as of September 14th: (example: Dogecoin ~$0.2744)
  • Hashrate: 20.5 GH/s (Average Hashrate during Testing)
  • Power consumption: 3,794W (Watts at the Wall Tested)

Using WhatToMine calculators and Not Estimates:

  • Revenue per day: $27.93
  • Daily electric cost: $6.56
  • Daily profit: $21.37

Not bad! Obviously, volatility is the name of the game in crypto, but for this performance and power envelope, the DG2+ is at the top of its class so far.

“If you have free power, this thing would be crazy profitable.” – The Hobbyist Miner

Let’s check how it stacks up against the competition.

Comparing the L9, DG2, and DG2+

Here’s a handy table breaking down average revenue and profit (all based on current market prices as of September 14th 2025)

Note this is base on My Hashrate and Watts at the Wall Testing Found Here

ModelRevenue/dayCost at $0.072 kWh/DayProfit/day
L9$22.94$5.96$16.98
DG2$24.54$6.8617.67
DG2+$27.93$6.56$21.37

Takeaway? The DG2+ is the king of the hill right now for air-cooled Scrypt miners—more profit, less power per GH/s.

Comparing to the Competition: L9, DG2, L11

Of course, ElphaPex isn’t the only game in town. Bitmain also announced their new L11 (which looks promising), but it’s not in hand yet, and ship dates are (let’s be honest) a total guess at this point. Even if you snag a pre-order, you could be waiting until Q1 or even Q2 next year.

Pricing and Purchase Considerations

So what’s it going to set you back?

Here’s a rundown of recent marketplace prices across various vendors (as of September 14th 2025):

Always double-check:

  • Are these prices including shipping/import/export tariffs or taxes? Sometimes you’ll get hit with an extra 10-30% at delivery if not, so ask before you buy. Please do your homework before buying!
  • These units are still on pre-order (as of this writing) and are expected to start shipping in November per Elphapex.

Final Thoughts: The DG2+ Verdict

So, after several weeks of testing and real-world punishment—what’s the verdict on the ElphaPexDG2+?

Pros

  • Performance: Hits and exceeds its claimed hashrate.
  • Efficiency: Lower electricity usage than claimed—real-world better than spec.
  • Profitability: Outperforms the L9 and regular DG2 in both revenue and profit.
  • Feature set: Compatible with 220–277V, plenty of mining pool support, easy to merge mine multiple coins.

Cons

  • Noise: Still industrial-loud (~80 dB)—not for your bedroom or office.

“I will be honest, I am massively impressed with this unit. You know it was advertised at 3,900 watts and the fact that we’re coming in at 3,794 is absolutely wild to me.” – The Hobbyist Miner

At the end of the day? The DG2+ delivers. It’s always good to see a manufacturer under-promise and over-deliver. If you’re in the market for a Scrypt miner that’s shipping soon, this one should be at the top of your list.
