Introduction

Mining Quai versus Dogecoin—what’s the real winner for your script miners? I’ve run both coins head to head, tracked every penny, and I’m sharing the full breakdown so you can make the choices that help your mining setup earn more.

“The debate is over. I’ve gone ahead and done the testing and today we’re going to go ahead and go for the results. Which one should you have your script miners on to make the most money?” – The Hobbyist Miner

So, whether you’re just setting up your first script miner or managing a full fleet of them, this guide is packed with info, images, and actionable tips. Let’s jump right in!

Inside the Crypto Mining Compound

The Compound: Where the Magic Happens

First things first, let’s set the scene. My crypto mining compound is in full winter mode, loaded with script miners, and pumping enough heat that the exhaust basically melts the snow outside.

If you’re a miner, you know that snow melt is the true sign that the rigs are doing work!

  • Shed Setup: The home crypto mining shed is packed with miners top and bottom, some holes in the exhaust wall for recirculating heat (pulling in below-freezing air, outputting 45°F).
  • Heating Perks: Three miners on the workbench keep the intake wall above freezing!

Miner Lineup

  • Bitmain Antminer L7 (multiple)
  • Bitmain Antminer KS5 Pro (multiple)
  • VolcMiner D1s (multiple)
  • Bitmain Antminer L9 (the star of this test)
  • Bitmain Antminer S19K Pro and S21 (for diversification)

This wasn’t just a casual test on one miner, run week 1 and week 2; it was real, with two identical miner models running side by side. Now let’s check out how the miners were set up for the competition.

Script Miner Models & Test Setup

Test Details

For thirty days, I ran two script miners—specifically Bitmain Antminer L9s—head to head:

  • Miner #1: L9 mining Quai on Alpha Pool
  • Miner #2: L9 mining Dogecoin on Power Pool

Same shed. Same electric. Same everything. This way, there’s no way the environment could swing the results!

Both miners started at 4:30 PM Eastern, Jan 8th, 2026, and stopped at 11:30 PM, Feb 7th, 2026. The hashing went on uninterrupted—nothing was moved or swapped.

Deep Dive: What Is Quai?

Before I started, honestly, Quai wasn’t on my radar. But the project has been around a few years, and what really grabbed my attention was Project SOAP from the Quai team. Here’s why it matters:

Quai: Not Just Another Altcoin

  • Multi-Algorithm Support: Quai lets you mine with GPUs AND ASICs. Both have a role—great for miners wanting to expand or not leave GPUs behind.
  • Project SOAP: Changed the game by dabbling in script (Litecoin/Dogecoin) and SHA256 (Bitcoin/BCH) algorithms. (Perfect connection for script miners!)
  • Merge Mining & Buybacks: When you mine on Quai, you also mine the parent chain (script or SHA256). The parent token is sold, used to buy back Quai, and then distributed or burned. Pretty different from typical mining.

This system is a bit weird to wrap your head around if you’re used to “mine coin, earn coin,” but once you get it, it’s powerful. – The Hobbyist Miner

Learning More About the Quai Project

Want to dive deeper? Highly recommend checking out:

Lockup & Wallets

Quai has a two-week lockup period after mining. Personally, I use Tangem wallets—easy, secure, and compatible with both Quai and Dogecoin.

This will come up again in a minute when we discuss one of my favorite pools now supporting Quai mining and covering the lock-up tokens for miners. Stay Tuned!

Pool Comparisons: Alpha Pool vs. Power Pool

Let’s talk pools. Picking the right one can make or break profitability, so here’s how each performed in the test.

Alpha Pool

  • Used for Quai Mining
  • Recommended by Red Panda Mining
  • Not the best historical metrics/export (but solid reliability)
  • Transparency: I’m linking my wallet address and Block Explorer so you can fully audit the mining output.

Power Pool

  • Used for Dogecoin Mining
  • My go-to for script mining (years of use)
  • Supports lots of merge-minable coins
  • Outstanding export features for breakdowns
  • Super easy conversions (get paid in Doge, LTC, BTC, USDC, etc.)

Mining Data: Quai and Dogecoin Price Moves

Mining one coin vs. another only makes sense if the price is right. Here’s what went down during the test.

Quai Price Action

  • Started at ~5¢
  • Peaked at 12.5¢ in January
  • Dropped back to ~5.5¢ at test end

Big swings here—so right in our test period, Quai had a massive pump (over 2x compared to the end). This definitely influenced the results.

Dogecoin Price Action

  • Hung around 9¢
  • Downtrend over last few months (missed the 42¢+ glory days)
  • Still a staple but less action lately

“Other than that, taking a look here at Dogecoin over the last three months, you know, right now Dogecoin is at $0.09 almost breaking 7 into $0.10 here. And the crazy thing is unfortunately Dogecoin has just gone down and down and down over the last few months which is absolutely tough.” – The Hobbyist Miner

Test Results: Crunching the Numbers

This is what everyone’s here for: which miner actually made more money?

Raw Mining Data

Quai (Alpha Pool)

  • Total Quai Mined: 4,733.54
  • USD Value: $277.67

Dogecoin (Power Pool)

  • Total Dogecoin Mined: 2,467.86
  • USD Value: $239.04

Comparing the Results

CoinMined UnitsUSD ValueDifference %
Quai4,733.54$277.67+14% vs Dogecoin
Dogecoin2,467.86$239.04-14% vs Quai

That’s a real, decent boost! And keep in mind: both miners had the same electricity costs… so pure revenue figures make the comparison fair.

My Mistake & Next Steps

Admit when you’re wrong, right? Quai was the clear winner in my test. But there’s more nuance:

What About Lockup?

Quai’s two-week lockup spooked some miners, but the PowerPool team is about to roll out support for Quai! They’ll eliminate the lockup period for you, front the funds, and let you convert right away into your preferred crypto (Doge, Bitcoin, USDC, and more).

So, for me, the plan is simple:

  • Move my script miners (about 290GH/s worth!) to mine Quai
  • Use PowerPool to instantly convert Quai into whatever crypto suits my strategy
  • “No need to hoard Quai; instead, treat it as the tool for maximum earnings” – The Hobbyist Miner

All-In on Script Mining

If you’re considering making this shift, PowerPool’s soon-to-launch Quai support will make it as hands-off as mine-and-switch gets. No KYC, 1% pool fees, 0% conversion fees, 0% withdrawl fees, merge mining, solo mining options—everything a miner needs.

Key Strategies

  • Mine Quai, convert daily: No lockup headaches
  • Diversify payouts: Dogecoin, Bitcoin, USDC, or whatever
  • Monitor pool profitability: Always compare with the big pools; Nicehash, F2Pool, ViaBTC, Antpool, etc.

Final Insights

Quai is more profitable (at least in this early 2026 snapshot) than Dogecoin for script miners. The combination of pool upgrades (especially PowerPool’s instant conversion), flexibility, and Quai’s own price movement make it the clear winner—especially if your strategy is to maximize revenue and switch into your favorite crypto.

“So for me I’m going to go ahead and use PowerPool to convert Quai instantly per day which is more profitable. Script mining into Dogecoin into Bitcoin into USDC and I don’t have to worry about the lockup period.” – The Hobbyist Miner

What Should You Do?

  • Test for Yourself: Try running script miners on Quai and Dogecoin and compare results in your area, with your setup.
  • Watch Pool Developments: PowerPool’s new features could make Quai mining even more appealing.
  • Stay Flexible: Don’t be afraid to switch up your mining strategy as coins and pools evolve.

Final Thoughts

Quai’s win here isn’t just about a price bump—it’s about flexibility, pool innovation, and knowing your mining strategy. If you want to squeeze every satoshi out of script miners, keep your options open and watch what pools like PowerPool are rolling out for Quai support.

Try it. Audit the results. Switch your payouts. Whatever you do, keep testing!
